The monks at Nový Dvůr perform a wide range of duties. First of all, they have to take care of the daily running of the monastery, which involves cooking, cleaning, clothes washing and maintenance. This work is generally carried out in the morning. Time is set aside to train youngest members. They also spend time welcoming guests and preparing their meals.

When they live by the labour of their hands, as our fathers and the apostles did, then they are really monks. Yet, all things are to be done with moderation on account of the fainthearted.”

(Saint Benedict, Rule for Monks, Chapter 48)
